Vic's Review's VERY Last Gasp...on Blogger

Well, you saw this coming, didn't you? As I have told you in a previous post, this blog on Blogger will no longer be updated with new reviews. However, for historical and nostalgic purposes, the blog will remain up. I may or may not want to make another blog with Blogger. If so, what will the new blog be about? Blogger is a fine platform that had handled this blog very well through the years. It was very usable for blog beginners. Even I noticed the ease of use when starting this blog, my first blog. Though many things have changed since 2004, this platform is still very usable. I have the new blog set up but I have not posted anything yet. I was waiting to close out this blog first. This is made with the WordPress that was an option from my web hosting account (in other words, "wordpress.org," the non-free version). I am learning more about WordPress design/development so the blog will improve with time. The first post will come soon. Please stay tuned! http://ww

Top 10 Things I Learned from Making Vic's Review

Hello again! I hope all is well. I have been coming up with some great ideas for reviews in the past years and I feel I have the energy and talent to write them. However, they will NOT be on this blog. As I may have mentioned in an earlier post, I will be continuing this blog on a different platform. I feel the content on this old blog will be no fit for the topics and writing style of my current days. It's time to move on. More information will be coming shortly. Before my farewells, here are 10 things I have learned from writing this blog on and off for the past nearly 14 years. NOTE: click the linked content at your own risk. 10. Proofread and learn to spell! I've been reading many of my earlier post and have been thinking "Aw, man, what was I thinking? That 'your' is supposed to be 'you're'" and other errors such as misspelling character names. This may have been a time before spell check was standard in browsers. Now granted, when doin

My Thoughts on "Catscratch"

Originally written 29 January 2017 Catscratch Nickelodeon 9 July 2005-10 February 2008 Since "Camp Lazlo" (7-8-05) and "Catscratch" (7-9-05) premiered on night apart, I'd thought I'd post each review on the same day. Lala Lala La-La-La, Catscratch! Now that someday is today, let's discuss Nickelodeon's mid-'00s animated show, "Catscratch." Even though it's from what Nick might call their "Dark Ages" (times they wish to forget, one of the few shows that have not had a full DVD release or official release on streaming platforms), this show is quite excellent. Here are some reasons. If you were to have a single glance at the 3 main characters, would you believe they were cats? They may not look like cats but who cares? Sure the show had anthropomorphic cats but you have to see what they do. They take care of their deceased "kitty mommy"'s property and the adventures are quite interesting. Some of th

Camp Lazlo-From What I've Seen

Originally written 28 January 2017 As promised in the 2005 discussion of "My Fair Mandy."  This is that "later article." Camp Lazlo Cartoon Network 8 July 2005-27 March 2008 If you have never seen "Camp Lazlo" before and I told you it was created by Joe Murray (also created "Rocko's Modern Life"), what might you think? One might think, "A Joe Murray show, oh boy! Watching this will have the same feel as a 'Rocko' episode." Hold on there! Let's think things through here. Very early in the series I asked my compadres on what they thought of Murray's latest work. Most said they were disappointed that this was nothing like "Rocko." To me, comparing "Rocko" and "Lazlo" is like comparing apples to oranges; they are from different networks (Nickelodeon vs Cartoon Network), different eras ('90s vs '00s), different settings ("modern life" vs camp life), as well as differe

Reviews to be Written

Hi all, Vic here! I just want to let you know I'm having a blast being able to update this blog and share these new entries with you. Lately I have been updating everyday. It's likely you will not see a new post tomorrow. I have yet to write 2 reviews on two cartoons. Hint: they are both from 2005 and they premiered one day apart from each other. Another hint: the month was July, late in the first week. I have mentioned these shows by name at least once on this blog and said I will post about them. I've been having a difficult time gathering my thoughts to write these reviews. That's kind of why my updates have been sporadic in the past due to the stresses of life. I need ample time to watch these shows so I can give my opinions on who will most likely enjoy them. It should be any day now. Hopefully this week. Be patient! Good reviews take time. Vic out!

Goodbye to Bloo - Reviewed

Originally Written 25 December 2016 Goodbye to Bloo Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends Cartoon Network 3 May 2009 As I said in an earlier post , I didn't get to see this ep when it premiered. I found out about it the next day. Not even 2 years later I finally got to see the episode. Yeah, the week of 3 May 2009 wasn't the best week for me (for personal reasons). To this day I have seen "Goodbye to Bloo" several times and here's what I think of it. They tried to make it where Mac would no longer be coming to Foster's when it was something else entirely. This was how they ended the series. Even if I had absolutely no idea this was the actual last episode, I can tell it's the final episode just by seeing how the story proceeds and ends. Toward the very end, upon closing the episode, the ending made my mind flash backwards through the entire series, remembering the great and not-so-great moments that made "Foster's" "Foster'

StipinCHOUstipiction

Originally Written 19-22 October 2016 I was looking back at a Cartoon Network Fridays show from 10 September 2004 and, as usual, it made me feel like I was still in that time period. It also included the "Wurd [sic] of the Day" segment. Remember how the ridiculously made-up word was introduced then a child from the audience spelled out the word spelling bee style? The word on the screen as introduced was spelled exactly like this: Stiptinchoustipiction. Used in a sentence, as said by Long Haul in his 18-wheeler, "I ordered me a chicken nugget and it was dipped in 'choustipiction'" (I doubt it was supposed to make sense). Then it sped over to the audience with their attention on a girl leaned over a low microphone spelling the word. All went well until she substituted the U with a W (StiptinchoWstipiction). Sometimes in this segment when the child has finished spelling, a voice would say, "That is...correct!" Not this time. They just went to the c

Very long-awaited belated Christmas Review

Originally written 8 January 2016 (one year ago tomorrow) Home for the Holly Daze My Dad the Rockstar Teletoon (Canada)/Nickelodeon (United States) 22 December 2003 (approx.; Teletoon) In 2005, Nickelodeon aired the Canadian animated television series, "My Dad the Rockstar." Each episode was aired except for the Christmas episode. I have promised to review it as soon as I've seen it (mentioned at the bottom of this post ). I finally got to watch it once in 2011 then again in 2016. I will review this rockin' and heartwarming Christmas special here. "Home for the Holly Daze" Review Was there a reason why Nick never showed this and I had to wait years to finally see it? Well, it was worth the wait! That insane Hollywood-like director had no business glamorizing what was to be a simple Christmas pageant. It was good that those involved found a place to perform the pageant at the end. Rock sang an epic rendition of a well-known Christmas carol then la

My Fair Smiling Mandy

Originally written 13 October 2016 My Fair Mandy Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy Cartoon Network 29 July 2005 Mandy is encouraged to enter a beauty pageant. In order to show her full beauty, she must do one thing one thing she doesn't usually do---smile. ---Vic's Review 13 October 2016 On this post , I said I might review this episode, so finally, here I go. This episode was full of that "you-know-what" Mindy and pageant moms using their daughters to live the dreams they wanted to have. I like how General Skarr was one of the judges. Toward the end, Mandy has her act singing her rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." She's no Judy Garland but the performance was really touching. Fans of "2001: A Space Odyssey" would understand the reference shortly after Mandy curved up her lips. The fact that Cartoon Network Fridays was hyping this at the time of the premiere and even making her smile again at all makes me want to bellow

Finally! Reviewing a Season 3 Danny Phantom Ep

Originally written 19-22 October 2016 Infinite Realms Danny Phantom Nickeldeon 10 July 2007 (approx.) As promised in: http://viccantalk.blogspot.com/2005/05/hey-danny-phantom-fans-guess-what.html Out of a couple "Danny Phantom" eps I watched on Hulu, one stood out to me. If it's good, it obviously deserves a high rating. What I liked about season 3, episode 2, called "Infinite Realms," was how Danny, Sam, and Tucker traveled through time with a special map of the Ghost Zone. I love how animation writers incorporate history in stories. What makes this better is how they prevented Vlad from getting a hold of the map. I love a good chase scene! The slapstick humor is always welcomed here, in a Butch Hartman show. This review may read a bit "holey" which gives me the opportunity to give this ep 4 1/2 stars . Go find a copy of this ep and watch it! I'm not saying too much about this. The combination of Butch Hartman-esque animation, music by G
